Chapter 11
The week went by quickly as Jen waited for the weekend to arrive.
She and Drew would be leaving Friday afternoon for
Jen's final class was World History, the one she had the most trouble in. With her mind cleared of all her other tests, Jen could concentrate better. She finished two minutes before the bell rang. At her locker she met up with Lisa and Jessie.
"Hey, guys. How do you think you did on your tests?" Jen asked.
"Horrible!" Lisa exclaimed. "I could barely concentrate on my math test last period. I think I failed it, though. Not like I care. Everybody knows math ain't my subject."
"Lisa, how do you expect to keep your position on the soccer team with your grades?" Jen questioned.
"I don't know," shrugged Lisa. She watched as Jen opened her locker to reveal an enormous amount of Polaroid pictures taken of her and Drew. "When did you take all of these?" she asked, surprised.
"Within the last few days," Jen answered. "This is my favorite one." She took down a picture of her and Drew kissing. "My parents caught us and snapped away. We didn't mind, though."
"Let's hope your parents didn't either," Jessie spoke up. She looked at her watch and added, "Well, I'm late for crew. Tootles." She began her walk to the auditorium.
"Me and you need to get moving 'cause you gotta get to the airport," Lisa dragged Jen away from her locker as she slammed it shut. They talked while walking down to the front entrance.
Jen accidentally waked into someone and said, "Sorry."
"Don't be. It's my fault," came a sweet and familiar voice. She looked up to see Drew standing in front of her.
"Hey, sweet thang. What are you doing here?" Jen asked as she kissed him.
"I'm here to whisk you off to Colorado for a week of fun with me."
"But I'm not even packed yet," she complained.
Drew took her hand and led her to his Jeep. "Your mom packed everything for you. I seriously doubt she forgot anything," he answered.
"I hope she didn't forget my medicine," Jen thought. "Wait, what about my car?" she asked out loud.
"Your parents are gonna pick it up later on today. Right now we need to hurry. The plane leaves in 20 minutes," Drew said.
At the Airport
"I can't believe I'm actually going skiing in Colorado next week," Jen told Drew. "Thank you so much for getting me out of the house. I really needed to take a vacation."
"I just wanted to spend some time with my girl, that's all. Don't thank me, though. Thank my cousin. She gave me the tickets. If it wasn't for her, we'd be doing nothing," Drew said. He picked Jen up and held her in his arms. "And you, my little lady," he began with his best southern accent, "are going to have fun. You're not going to think about school, friends, or family. First, I'm gonna teach you how to ski, then I'm gonna teach you how to snowboard. Is that okay with you, little miss?"
"Yes, sir," Jen laughed. The flight attendant began to call for boarding. Drew started digging through his pocket to find the tickets. "You have them, don't you?"
He pulled out the envelope and smiled. "You thought I lost them," Drew said. He handed them to the attendant and they boarded the plane.
"Could I sit by the window?" Jen asked.
"Go ahead. I've seen more of the sky that I ever thought I would," he answered. Jen slid past him and sat down in her seat. "You're going to love it in Colorado. The white snow and the cold air is more than enough to keep your heart pounding."
"And being alone with only you, that's even better," she whispered.
"I know what you mean," Drew kissed Jen. She looked into his soft brown eyes and waited for him to add anything to that. They quietly stared at each other until the stewardess announced the departure of the plane.
"Do you mind if I fall asleep on your shoulder?"
"Go ahead. I know what you've been through," he answered. Jen slipped her had around his waist and closed her eyes. "Good night," she kissed Drew and fell asleep.
Later that Day
Jen woke up just in time for touch down in a white landscape. She looked out the window to see the airport covered in puffy white snow. She turned towards Drew to find him staring at her.
"Isn't it beautiful?" he asked.
"I love it. I've never seen something so wonderful," Jen answered. "Thank you so much for taking me. I probably would have never seen this if it wasn't for you."
"Don't thank me yet. You still haven't had fun," Drew said. The attendant opened the door and Jen could feel the cold air rush into the plane. She started to shiver. "Are you cold?" he asked.
"Yeah, a little," Jen replied. Drew took off his jacket and wrapped it around her.
"Let's go. I'm dying to show you the lodge. Then we can go for a nice dinner."
"That's great, I'm starving. What are we gonna do after dinner?" she asked, walking into the airport.
"I don't know. Would you like to go dancing or stay in our room?" Drew answered. They walked to the baggage claim and got their bags. Jen had a large suitcase and her backpack while Drew just had a small suitcase.
"Could you give me a minute? I gotta go to the restroom. I'll be back in a few," she said, then walked into the ladies room. Jen searched through her backpack until she found her pills. She took one without water and walked back to Drew. He was waiting outside for her next to a black limo.
"Your chariot awaits, my lady," he sweetly answered to Jen's surprise.
"Is this for us?" she questioned as Drew opened the door for her. "This is so cool. I've never been in a limo before." She slipped inside and sat down on one of the soft leather seats.
"Do you like it?" Drew took Jen's slender hands and kissed them both.
"Drew, you know I do," she answered. "I've finally made a decision about where we should go for dinner."
"Tell me," he said.
"Dancing in our room," she whispered, inching closer to his lips for another kiss.
"Wait a minute, in our room? We don't have a stereo," Drew complained.
"Well, when I was looking through my backpack, I found my c.d. player and a speaker. I keep them in there for my own purposes. Mainly just in case I get bored. I have a few c.d.'s we can dance to," Jen responded.
"Ooh, that sounds great," he finally agreed. Drew bent down and kissed her. They then reached the lodge and got out of the limo.
Jen stared at it in amazement. The lodge was extravagantly built with wooden walls and large windows in neat rows. The entrance was a large wooden door, a flight of steps leading up to it. "It's beautiful," Jen marveled.
Drew took her hand and they walked up the steps together. He check them in and they went up to their room. It was towards the north side of the lodge. The large balcony faced the slopes of the mountains. "I changed my mind about dinner. Why don't we eat it here?" Drew asked.
"Yeah, then we can do a little dancing afterward," Jen answered. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a deep kiss. "I love you, Drew."
"I love you, too," Drew said as his hands slipped down Jen's back to rest on her hips.
