Chapter 4
It had been two hours since Justin and Vicky had talked. They tried to avoid each other as much as possible, but that never happened. It was always a bump here or a bump there, never a peaceful moment alone. Vicky wanted to leave with Chris to find Sam, but the rest of the guys wouldn't let her.
"Come on, please?" she begged, wanting to get away from Justin even for the shortest amount of time.
"No, you're not going anywhere," Chris fought back. "You're hurt, and I won't let you go. I'll take Lance and Joey with me, and we'll find Sam."
"But you don't understand. You have to let me come with. Sam is one of those people who would go crazy if she ever met you guys. I have to be there to keep her calm," Vicky yelled. She crossed her arms against her chest and waited for a response.
"For the last time, no. I am not letting you go with us," he argued once more. There was no chance Chris was letting her go with them.
"Oh, shut up! I'm coming with you, and I won't take no for an answer!"
"NO!"
"Then fine! I'm gonna look for her myself." Vicky stood up and ran away from the little makeshift camp. She didn't bother to look back. It being the place she did not want to be right now.
Chris started to run after her, but Justin stopped him. "I'll go," he said.
Justin started at his own pace knowing that Vicky would soon get tired and stop. Even though she was far from his sight, he could see the direction her footprints were going in. All he wanted to do was apologize for the way he acted when they first met. As he reached the beach, he saw Vicky standing there and looking around.
Carefully and quietly, Justin walked behind her. Slowly with a steady hand he grabbed her by the arm and swung her towards him. Vicky screamed with all the force she could muster. Justin nearly fell over laughing at her.
"What the fuck is your problem?" she yelled, slapping Justin in the face.
"Nothing," he retorted, rubbing his cheek.
"Well, I guess you're here to make my day even more miserable. Why don't you just get the hell away from me and fuck off like a nice boy?" Vicky answered. She turned around and began to walk away.
"From the looks of it, you're the one who's making my day miserable. And besides, I came here to look after you. I don't want you getting hurt," Justin said.
"Since when did Mr. Shit for Brains start looking out for me?" Vicky turned back to him and waited for his answer.
"Well, actually, ever since I met you," he replied. Justin took her hand, but she slipped out of his grasp. "I'm sorry for acting like such an ass. I guess my ego is bigger than my brain."
"Oh, my God! I've actually met a guy who admits he's stupid!" Vicky sarcastically remarked. "How long did it take you to figure that out?"
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Justin asked. "Can't you see I'm trying to be nice, but I guess it's not working. Maybe if you didn't have your head stuck so far up your ass, you'd see that."
"Are you insulting me?"
“That’s the last thing I wanna do. You’re already as pissed as I want to see a girl.”
“Maybe if it wasn’t for that attitude problem of yours, I’d be a little nicer,” Vicky declared as she walked away from Justin. He put his hand on her shoulder to stop her, but she pushed it away. “Look, I’ll let you come with me if you just keep your mouth shut.”
“Fine, I won’t say a word,” he agreed. They walked up the beach together in silence for the rest of the trip, Justin following Vicky. She seemed to like all the power she had, and made a mental note to keep it that way.
A short time later, the two stumbled upon Sam’s sleeping body. She was covered in sand, but still alive. Vicky was relieved to see that her best friend made it safely. She shook her shoulder to wake her up. “Sam, come on, wake up. It’s Vicky.”
Sam slowly opened her eyes. She wasn’t in the mood to wake up yet, but when she saw Vicky, she shot up and hugged her. “You’re alive! Oh, thank God you’re alive!” she yelled.
“Yeah, I know. I feel the same way,” Vicky answered as she pulled Sam up from the sand.
“Who is this?” Sam asked as she saw Justin standing a little ways away.
“One big ass hole that I met about two hours ago. I think Chris said his name was Justin. I don’t know. I’m never good at names,” Vicky said. She and Sam walked up to him.
“Hi,” Justin barely whispered in fear that Vicky would yell at him again. He wasn’t about to mess with her.
“Oh, my God! No way! You’re . . . You’re Justin Timberlake! Of ‘N
Sync! I can’t believe it!” Sam screamed as she gave him a huge hug.
“Vicky, why didn’t you tell me this was him?”
“Just because I knew you would freak out, like you just did, and I
really didn’t want to hear it,” she replied. Vicky began to walk back to
camp while Justin and Sam talked for a little while behind her.
“You know, your friend’s a little crazy. What the hell crawled up her ass?” Justin questioned as he walked with Sam.
“Well, she’s having problems with her boyfriend. She wanted to think about how to tell him that they really weren’t working. I guess she doesn’t know how to control her pain,” Sam explained.
“Oh, then I guess I shouldn’t have acted like such an ass myself. I didn’t know that she would blow up,” Justin said as he looked at Sam. She was an average girl with dark brown hair and blue eyes. Her thin figure was nice to look at, but she was nothing like Vicky. Her personality was much less aggressive.
“So, what are you doing out here? Are you with the rest of the guys?” she asked.
“Yeah, we were supposed to be in the Bahamas for our little vacation from touring. Then this happened, and I don’t know whether or not we’re going to get off this island.”
“Oh, well, at least we’re all here. Thank God I’m not alone, because I would have freaked out by now and started running circles all over the place,” Sam joked. She and Justin let out a relief filled laugh as Vicky turned to see what was going on.
“What’s so funny?” she questioned. There was something going on, and she wanted a piece of the action.
“Nothing. Just something I said,” Sam retorted. She turned to Justin and smiled.
“Are you going to tell me what it was?” Vicky asked, anger building up in her voice.
“Well, it was nothing. I don’t even know why I though it was funny. Forget it. Don’t worry, you didn’t miss out,” Justin cut in. He knew that was a bad mistake.
“What did I tell you earlier on the beach?” Vicky yelled.
“To shut up, I know, but Sam’s here, and I was talking to her and not you. What? Do you have a problem with me talking to your friend?” he retorted.
“Yes I do. I told you to shut the fuck up, and I want you to obey that rule, or I’ll kick your ass.”
“Oh, Miss Thang is threatening me again. What are you gonna do to me? Try to hurt me with that bad arm of yours?”
Without warning, Vicky swung at Justin and hit him in the face. He fell over, but didn’t get back up. Something was wrong. He wasn’t even bothering to say a word. With a slight bit of hesitation, Vicky knelt down for a better look. She found Justin was unconscious with a large cut across his forehead. Blood dripped for its gaping hole as if there were nothing stopping it. On the ground was a sharp rock also covered in blood.
“Oh, my God,” she whispered.
“Vicky, what happened?” Sam asked as she came closer. Seeing the blood, she knew something was very wrong.
“I think he hit a rock when he fell,” Vicky cried. Chris was going to be pissed when he found out. “Go to camp and get some help. I’ll stay here with him.”
“But I don’t know where to go,” Sam complained.
“Just follow the beach and you’ll find the guys. Tell Chris. He’ll know what to do,” Vicky instructed. Sam ran off as she turned back to Justin.
