Surprises
I looked up the side of the three-story Victorian style apartment complex to see him frantically waving out my second story window trying to get my attention. “Get up here! I have a surprise for you!” he called down to me.
I smiled up at him and replied, “Okay, I’m coming up.” I slipped my keys out of my coat pocket and opened the front door quickly. I ran up the stairs dying to find out what this surprise was. Just a few short hours before, my best friend had taken me to a little restaurant far out in the country for lunch to celebrate my birthday. It was extremely nice of her considering everyone else had completely forgotten about it.
The time was nearly
My apartment had been completely transformed into a party room, streamers and balloons hanging from every place imaginable. Over the door was a sign saying “Happy Birthday” in big, bold multicolored letters. I took off my jacket and threw my keys onto the coffee table still a little shocked from the surprise.
A subtle hand gently came around my waist as a pair of ice blue eyes stared back at me when I turned around to face the culprit. A wide smile grew across both out faces as we embraced in a long, tight hug. His hand came up to my face to gently caress my cheek. All the little things he did made my stomach tie itself into tight knots.
“So, were you surprised?” he asked, softly running his fingers through my thick, dirty blond hair.
“Yeah, I thought everyone forgot that today was my birthday. Thank you so much for doing this for me. I really appreciate it,” I replied, mesmerized by the way his eyes were staring into mine.
“It was my pleasure,” he whispered, bending down and softly kissing my lips. His kiss constantly reminded me of how much he loved me. I smiled once more and rested my head on the muscular shoulder of his soft black turtleneck.
