The
Beach
The beach was extremely calm that mid summer’s night as we walked together, hand in hand, down the pure white sands. The waves crashed into the shore making a gentle sound that blended in with the cries of the seagulls up above us as they flew over our heads searching for their next meal. The moon cast a pale white glow on the ground lighting our way down the path we always took.
He let go of my hand to wrap his arm around my shoulders. I shivered, unaware that I had been doing so for the past couple of minutes. He gently pulled me closer to the warmth of his body as I wrapped my arm around his waist. I looked into his ice blue eyes to see him lovingly staring back at me. A tiny tremor rushed through me as my stomach turned a few times. His wide smile was always a comforting sight, easing my jitters.
We walked down the moonlit path until finally reaching the house my best friend had lent us for the week. It was small compared to the others nestled on the beach, with three small bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a living room, a back porch, and a garage. Large bay windows captured the light from each morning’s sunrise making it a beautiful sight to witness. The back porch had a swing where we spent most of our nights talking and being snuggled close to each other.
I enjoyed having him by my side as we walked home, his arms holding me tightly, yet so tenderly that I felt safe around him. When we reached the swing, I sat down, and he sat beside me, gently beginning to rock us back and forth. My head dropped into his lap and he began to run his fingers through my hair.
“I love you so much,” I quietly said as I looked up at him. He only smiled and bent over to kiss my waiting lips. As we parted, I could feel an overwhelming calmness settle between us. His delicate fingers kept running through my hair as I turned my attention to the stars shining up above.
“I wanna stand with you on a mountain. I wanna bathe with you in the sea. I wanna lay like this forever, until the sky falls down on me,” his beautiful voice sang as he followed my gaze. I smiled, and he continued. “And when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky, I’ll make a wish to send to heaven then make you want to cry the tears of joy for all the pleasure in this certainty…”
He summed up pretty much everything I had been thinking that night. My eyes closed as we stayed out on the back porch that night while he sang to me the song that we had made ours now and forever.
