Chance Malone: The main character of the
story. She's a totally divoted Savage Garden fan. She's 17 in the beginning,
but turns 18 later on. She's a junior in high school. Chance left for a year
after her parents died in a plane crash when she was 16, but went back to school
to finish her education. That explains why she's an 18-year-old junior. She's
your average person on the outside; tall (about 5'8"), thin (before her parents'
deaths she was a little on the big side, but she lost interest in food and started
to lose the unhealthy way), dark haired, and brown eyed. (The easiest way to
put it, I based her on Shiri Appleby, Liz on "Roswell.") On the inside, Chance
is very different from everyone else. Her mind is ravaged with everything bad
that's happened in her life and there is one person in her life that is constantly
making her even more miserable, Brad Jackson, but she lets out the pain and
anger by writing music and singing. She has a very special talent. Just by watching
and listening to someone play an instrument, she's able to learn and play it
within minutes. You'll see what I mean in Chapter 9: Champaign High. Another
thing that makes Chance different from your typical teenager is that she lives
on her own. She has grandparents in Canada, but they have decided to let her
have her own life and stay in New York where her home is. Chance lives close
to New York City, and she goes into town frequently. Lucky for her, she also
has a subscription to the Times, where she finds out about Savage Garden being
at MTV. She's the lucky winner of the contest they have, and gets a deal to
record with Darren on his new album. Chance is known as the loner. She has only
one friend, Scott Holland, which turns out to be the love of her life, or so
she thinks. Fate has a totally different plan for these two. Overall, Chance
is one of those really unique people you meet only once in your life.
Scott Holland: Chance's love interest and
best friend. He's a hottie. Girls, can a guy get any better looking than this:
6'5", brown eyes with the slightest tint of green, very strong muscles (no wonder,
he's one hell of a jock playing anything and everything), the absolute sweetest
smile, brown hair frosted blond that falls just above his eyes, and totally
in style. There is a lighter side to Scott. He's deeply in love with Chance
and will do anything for her, even risk his life. He knows he's not supposed
to be with her since he's one of Brad's closest friends, but he doesn't care.
Scott and Chance see each other secretly, and are not expecting anyone to find
out about their relationship. Scott is also a very gentle person. He works at
the studio Chance's parents opened (called Unique Recording) as a studio engineer,
and he loves music. There are plenty of good things about him, but he also has
a dark side. Scott is one of those guys who can get really angry when their
girlfriends flirt with other guys. That's about the only thing though. Overall,
he's really a great guy.
Darren Hayes: Okay, I really don't have
to explain myself here. You all should know who he is. (He's the really cute
guy standing in the pic.) There are a few things that you need to know though.
He's strongly attracted to Chance from the first moment he sees her at MTV.
That attraction grows stronger as they spend more time together, and he moves
in with her so they can record the album together at her parents' studio. The
closer they get, the more Darren falls for Chance. Unfortunately for him, she's
taken, and he gets angry with her for messing with his feelings. This causes
something really big to happen between Chance, Scott, and Darren. That'll all
be explained in Chapter 10: It's Not Easy Tonight. Overall, Darren is a very
important person in Chance's life, and he proves it.
Daniel Jones: Again, I really don't have
to explain myself. (He's the other really cut guy sitting in the pic.) There
are also a few things about Dan that I need to tell you about. He's the only
one out of the three guys that doesn't want to get to close to Chance. He sees
her more as a friend than a lover. That's why Dan and Chance hit it off so well
as friends. Neither of them finds the other attractive. That's also why they
can play music so well together. Dan and Chance teach each other throughout
the story. That's the one thing they have in common; they both play guitar and
piano. Dan doesn't really play an important role throughout the story, but he
is instrumental in helping Chance achieve stardom. That'll be proven in later
chapters that I haven't written yet. Overall, Dan is a great friend to Chance
and everyone else. He's the peacekeeper of the group.
Brad Jackson: Well, you have heard a few
things about him in the other descriptions. Here's the rest that you need to
know. He's a total jerk towards Chance, and despises her beyond comprehension.
He's got his own little clique of four friends: Paul Hunter, Rick Ashland, and
Scott Holland. The group is like a gang; once you're in, you can never get out.
If you do, you're dead. He does some really horrible things to Chance throughout
the story, especially in Chapter 11: Duck and Run. That's one incident that
takes the cake. I would say that Brad is one of those guys who hold a grudge
against anyone who threatens him. He's also the kind of guy you would expect
to get anything accomplished no matter how. Overall, Brad's a jackass, simply
put.
Charles Fisher: He's the producer of Savage
Garden's first CD. He doesn't have an important role in the story; he's just
the guy who gives Chance her big break.
Alexia Potter: Daniel's first love interest.
She's a crafty young vixen who's only after him for his money. She's very pretty,
with long blond hair, deep sky blue eyes, tanned golden brown skin, cherry red
lips that pouted in the shape of a heart, 120 pounds, 5’7", always wearing designer
clothing, and has a distinctive NY accent. On top of all that, she's a con artist.
Born and raised in New York, Alexia was orphaned at an early age and had to
live on the streets, where she acquired her niche. Daniel is her first big con
even though she has been doing the trade for nearly her entire life. As the
story progresses, she begins to see him as more than just another con, she sees
him as a person who truly loves her. These feelings lead to her downfall in
the end where she finally cracks and tells Daniel everything.
Shiri Appleby: Daniel's second love interest
and the mystery character that I was telling you about. She has a starring role
on the TV series "Roswell." She plays the character of Liz Parker. Shiri and
Daniel meet after an accident nearly paralyzes him. Chance sends her and Majandra
Delfino, another cast member from "Roswell," to check on Daniel since she’s
forced to stay on the set to shoot her scenes. It’s not love at first sight
since Daniel is still overcoming what happened between him and Alexia. As the
months go by and he gets better, things begin to change between them and they
become more than friends. Many more things happen between them that strengthens
the bond they have, but I’m not about to give out the end of the book. Just
sit back, relax, and read on.
Majandra Delfino: Shiri and Chance's best
friend. She's always helping out with everyone's situation. Majandra also plays
a role on "Roswell." Her character is Maria De Luca. It's also not surprising
that her boyfriend, Brendan Fehr, is another character, Michael Guiren.
Jason Behr: He's one of Chance's other best
friends. Jason plays the main character, Max Evans, on "Roswell." Besides that,
he's the resident heartthrob on the set. He's a very nice guy and is friends
with pretty much everyone.
Brendan Fehr: Besides being Majandra's boyfriend
on and off screen, Brendan is friends with everyone else. He doesn't take much
to Chance at first, but after she covers for him a few times, he begins to appreciate
her a little more for being his friend. He also knows not to push his luck around
her because she can get very aggressive.
Chapter 1: In The Beginning: The title isn’t
really a song or anything. I just couldn’t find a song that could relater to
the first chapter.
Chapter 2: Dreams Turn Into Reality: Again,
another non-musically themed chapter. This time, I can’t remember what song
this lyric comes from. If anyone knows, please email me and tell me so this
will at least stop bothering me.
Chapter 3: Thank You: Finally, my brain’s
working. This chapter is titled after Dido’s "Thank You." It totally fits because
this entire chapter is pretty much about being thankful.
Chapter 4: Hanging By A Moment: Sung by
Lifehouse, "Hanging By A Moment" is the perfect title for this chapter because
it involves two people just beginning to fall in love even though they don’t
even know it and all they have is one moment together that takes them through
something so big, it can’t be described.
Chapter 5: Just A Kiss Divine: I wish I
could remember where this lyric was from. I spent nearly 2 hours looking for
it, but I couldn’t find it. Anyway, I titled the chapter "Just A Kiss Divine"
because there’s a kiss shared between 2 characters that changes their lives
and moves them into the unknown.
Chapter 6: Uninvited: This song, by Alanis
Morrisette, pretty much sums up the chapter since another one of the main characters
decides to drop in, uninvited, to live with the main character.
Chapter 7: Even Angels Fall: Sung by Jessica
Riddle, "Even Angels Fall" is a song that describes the scene set in this chapter.
The main character realizes that she has done something she regrets, so in an
essence, even the angel has fallen.
Chapter 8: Fumbling Towards Ecstasy: Besides
being one of my favorite songs by Sarah McLachlan, I titled this chapter "Fumbling
Towards Ecstasy" because I think it fits the relationship two of the characters.
They are so involved that they aren’t seeing the signs that something is destined
to go wrong with them.
Chapter 9: Champaign High: This song, by
Sister Hazel, pretty much sets the mood for the whole chapter. The four main
characters end up going out and having the times of their lives.
Chapter 10: It’s Not Easy Tonight: From
the song "Easy Tonight" by Five For Fighting, this chapter is titled for the
situation that explodes between three of the main characters and how it takes
its toll on the main character.
Chapter 11: Duck and Run: One really good
song by 3 Doors Down, I titled this chapter "Duck and Run" because literally,
that’s what happens to the main character after a devastating attack.
Chapter 12: I Could Fall: This has to be
the BEST song by Evan & Jaron, and it perfectly describes everything that
happens in this chapter. "I Could Fall" is like a metaphor for this entire chapter.
Someone does "fall," but there’s more danger to his fall that he was expecting.
Chapter 13: Chic-A-Cherry-Cola: Of course,
the lyric comes from "I Want You" by Savage Garden. The song fits this chapter
because it gets to be crazy and fun between two of the characters that haven’t
been able to spend some quality time alone together.
Chapter 14: Elsewhere: Another song by Sarah
McLachlan, I know. I chose it to be the title for this chapter because it describes
where the main character’s mind is throughout the whole thing.
Chapter 15: Forbidden Kisses: There is no
song relevant to this chapter, but the title is very suggestive of what happens
between two of the characters.
Chapter 16: A Change Would Do You Good:
I love this song by Sheryl Crow. It’s the perfect song to describe this chapter
because it’s all about being wild, spontaneous, and unpredictable.
Chapter 17: Surprises: This chapter is actually
titled for an episode of my favorite TV shows "Roswell." I think the title fits
because the main character runs into so many surprises through this chapter.
Chapter 18: Turn Around: This song by Collective
Soul sums up the chapter because quite a few things happen and everything gets
very mixed up for the main character so that she doesn’t understand some of
the crazy things that are happening in her life.
Chapter 19: In My Hands: Named after that
one song by Fuel, this chapter is probably the one that I’d keep a tissue for.
I think I gave away a little too much already, so I’m just gonna shut up now.
Chapter 20: Calling All Angels: This heartbreaking
chapter named for Jane Siberry’s song from the "Pay It Forward" soundtrack,
and from "A Roswell Christmas Carol," tells of what the main character is going
through now that she has to accept what happened in the last chapter.
Chapter 21: Tonight And The Rest Of My Life:
Nina Gordon’s hit and one of the best songs I’ve heard on the radio, "Tonight
And The Rest Of My Life" is one of those titles that fits yet doesn’t really
fit. I don’t know how to describe it. You gotta read the chapter to know what
I mean.
Chapter 22: Everything Falls Apart: This
is the only song I’ve ever hear by Dog’s Eye View, but it seems to fit the chapter
well because, frankly, everything falls apart for two of the main characters.
Chapter 23: Angel: Named for yet another
one of my favorite songs by Sarah McLachlan, this chapter is completely described
by the song. Just read the lyrics or hear the song, then read the chapter and
you’ll know why.
Chapter 24: Please Forgive Me: I absolutely
love this song by Bryan Adams. The title fits the chapter because one of the
main characters makes amends with someone from his past.
Chapter 25: I’m Moving On: Inspired by that
song by Rascal Flatts, I titled this chapter "I’m Moving On" because one of
the main characters actually gets up and leaves because he can’t take what’s
going on around him, and thinks that it’s time for him to get away from everything.
He wants to start all over and move on with his life.
Chapter 26: Nobody Wants To Be Lonely: This
is probably my favorite song on the radio as of right now. Sung by Ricky Martin
and Christina Aguilera, "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely" is the perfect title for
this chapter because the main character finally gets the love that she needs
and isn’t lonely anymore.
Chapter 27: Hold Me: Yes, I did get another
good chapter from a Savage Garden song, but this time, I chose "Hold Me" because
it represents the entire theme of the chapter. Need I say more?
Chapter 28: Here With Me: This song, by
Dido, describes the entire chapter through the lyrics. If you haven’t heard
the song, then you’ll just have to read the chapter to see why it fits so well
with the setting. (The title has changed about four times already because I
couldn’t find the "perfect" song to describe the chapter. I think this is the
one, though.)
Chapter 29: Somewhere In Between: One of
my other favorite songs by Lifehouse, "Somwehere In Between" is a really good
way to describe this chapter because so many strange and unexpected things happen,
and you're forced to think about a lot of stuff at once. The characters go through
a LOT, and expect someone from the past to show up unexpectedly.
Chapter 30: Crash And Burn: My "theme" song,
if you know what I mean. This is my absolute FAVORITE song by Savage Garden,
and I guess you can see from the title of this chapter that it involves someone
having a really hard time and needing someone to lean on.
Chapter 31: Into The New: I took this title
from a Vallejo song that I really like. It's pretty symbolic of what happens
in the chapter. The main character experiences many new experiences and has
to cope with things that happened in the previous chapter. She is overwhelmed,
but is able to overcome everything.
Chapter 32: Take A Picture: I like Filter
and I like this song, so I made sure this turned up in the story one way or
another. This chapter is about the two main characters and their first photo
shoot together. Some pretty weird things also happen in this chapter, something
you should have come to expect from me.
Chapter 33: Fantasy: This is an awesome
song by Mariah Carey. I really think it fits the chapter because many fantasies
become reality for a few main characters. This is a very sweet, very cute kind
of chapter because it's so mushy. Sorry to all those people who despise these
kinds of chapters.
Chapter 34: The Calm Before The Storm: There
is no particular song for this chapter. I decided to do the traditional thing
and make up my own title. Besides, I think this one fits the best because a
lot of crazy s**t happens in this chapter that leads to some amazing stuff in
the next chapter.
Chapter 35: Final Farewell: Again, another
original title. This time, it's more symbolic of a journey that two of the main
characters take across the country to do something that they should have done
a long time ago, let go of the past.
Chapter 36: Déjà Vu: There is no real song
title for the chapter, but there is a reason for the title. Someone from the
past resurfaces in Chance's life. She's really surprised to see who it turns
out to be. (I think you'll figure out from the pic on the page.)
Chapter 37: I Could Not Ask For More: This
chapter is of course named for that Edwin McCain/Sarah Evans hit. (There are
two versions of that song: pop and country. The country one is much better than
the pop one, but some might disagree with me.) Anyway, something very wonderful
happens in the chapter, except I'm not about to give it away. You gotta read
it yourself to find out.
Chapter 38: Fallen Icons: I really like
this song by Delerium, so I just thought this would be a great title for this
chapter because some really tragic stuff happens. It's really important that
you also reach chapter 18 in Love Don't Cost A Thing in order to see what's
really going on between two of the main characters.
Chapter 39: In The Dark: No song title for
this chapter. Someone is gonna be left in the dark big time. In order to understand
this chapter, you gotta read chapter 19 in Love Don't Cost A Thing.
Chapter 40: Secrets and Lies: No song title
here. This is a really important chapter because one of the main characters
finds out some things about her life that she never knew, and now she has to
decide what she's going to do after such a horrible discovery has been made.
Chapter 41: Goodbye To You: The song title
that I named this chapter after is one by Michelle Branch. This is a really
good some. I highly recommend downloading it when you get the chance. Anyway,
in this chapter, the main character has made her decision, and is now in the
midst of a "mid-life crisis."
Chapter 42: Return To Me: No song title
for this chapter. I think it's suggestive enough, so I really don't need to
explain what happens in the chapter. There is something really important, but
it's not a good idea if I mention it now.
Chapter 43: Camera One: This is a good song
by the Josh Joplin Group. The song has nothing to do with the chapter, but the
title kind deceives it. Two of the main characters have their first video shoot
together. Something really big happens to one of them, though, during the shoot.
Chapter 44: Together Again: This is a really
sad, really sweet song by 'N Sync, but that was before I began to really dislike
them. Anyway, the chapter has nothing to do with being really sad. It's actually
much more uplifting and revealing. It's off to TRL again for the characters.
Chapter 45: Family Ties: This chapter is
not really titled after a song, and don't even think I wanted to title it after
a show. This chapter is more about the main characters family life and what
happens to her when she finally meets her parents.
Chapter 46: Resolutions: No real song title
for this chapter, but the chapter does deal with some really messy things. The
main character is screwed because she still hasn't even planned her own wedding.
But soon, she gets some help from some old friends. Expect a really cool surprise
at the end of this chapter.
Chapter 47: We Are The Champions: Well,
to tell you the truth, I like the old version by Queen better than the Robbie
Williams version, but I could only find the lyrics for Robbie Williams. Anyway,
I think you can guess what this chapter is about, so I'm gonna keep my lips
sealed. Actually, I'll say one word, Grammies.
Chapter 48: Truly Madly Deeply: Gee, I wonder
where I got the title of this chapter? Anyway... The day has finally arrived.
Chance and Darren are getting married! And the final chapter of this story is
written. This is the only chapter where the name is actually in it. Thank so
so much for reading my story. It was nice to have such a great audience like
you guys!
