Chapter
12: Sex, Lies, and Videotape
“I feel so tired today. I’m totally exhausted, and I don’t know why. I got
enough sleep last night. What’s going on? Am I sick or something?” Faith
spoke to her camera as she lay on her bed in the hotel room at Caesar’s
Palace. “This bed was comfortable enough. I nearly sank into it and couldn’t
get out. It feels as if I’ve been working for three days straight. But I guess
I’d better stop complaining. This is one HELL of a hotel. The room is great!
Absolutely beautiful! I can’t believe Darren’s record company is able to put
everyone up in their own luxury suite, even though I seriously doubt some of
them are even gonna be used at all. I know mine is because I have to get my
daily drug fix. And when I’m not here, I’ll probably be in the bar drinking
or playing blackjack in the casino, but most of my time is definitely gonna be
spent in Darren’s room. His is ten times better than mine, which is so hard to
believe. And I thought it didn’t get any better than this.” A few knocks
came at the door. Faith turned to her camera and said, “I guess I’ll
continue this later. Someone’s knockin’. I’d better go get it.”
Faith stood up and walked to the door in her gray shorts, stark white tank top,
baby blue robe, and pink fuzzy bunny slippers. Through her peephole, she saw
Darren standing there waiting for. She opened the door and let him in without
giving him a second glance, heading to the bathroom so she could do her hair and
makeup. It had become more casual than anything between them now that their
relationship was out in the open. No more wild and crazy romps in the late night
hours, no more secrets, no more bull shit.
“Hey, Daz! Could you give me just one sec. I gotta put my hair up. I’ll be
right out,” Faith yelled from the bathroom.
“I’ll wait,” Darren called back to her as he sat down on her feather soft
bed.
Faith came walking out of the bathroom minutes later, her blond-brown hair,
which needed a desperate dye job, up in a tight bun. “I seriously need to get
my hair done,” she continued to ramble as she passed Darren and headed
straight for her suitcase.
“Could you hold still for just one second?” he asked. Faith immediately
turned around and looked at him with wide eyes, surprised by how irritated he
sounded. She could see the flowers sitting beside him on the bed and instantly
assumed that her was going to break up with her.
“Shit, I knew it would come to this,” Faith mumbled.
“Come to what?” Darren innocently asked.
“You’re breaking up with me, aren’t you?” she replied, pointing to the
flowers.
“What? No!” he immediately denied as she stood up and walked over to her.
“I don’t intend on breaking up with you any time in the near future.
You’re too good to let go of.”
“Oh, God! You scared me! Don’t ever do that again,” Faith scolded as she
wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. “So, what are the flowers
for?”
“It’s our one week anniversary,” Darren answered.
“It’s already been a week? Wow, this is definitely my longest relationship
ever.”
“Well, let’s hope that it’ll turn into something more permanent.”
“We could, or we could also live each day like there was no tomorrow.”
“How do you mean?”
Faith gave him a devilish smile as she led him towards the bed. “Well, we
could stay in today and just get really dirty, if you catch my drift,” she
said, pulling him in for another succulent kiss.
“Oh, I catch it all right,” Darren answered in a husky voice. He pushed
Faith down on the bed and fell on top of her.
* * *
“Damn, that was good,” Faith moaned as she fell on top of Darren’s chest.
“I swear, every time I’ve with you, it’s a whole new experience. You
always find ways to surprise me.”
“You too,” Darren softly replied as he wrapped his arms around her bare back
and held her a little tighter. He could feel his heart flutter every time she
drew a breath and her chest heaved with his. ‘She’s so perfect,’ he
silently thought to himself as a smile curled up on his lips. Closing his eyes,
he breathed in the scent of her warm body, the unique aroma filling his
nostrils. It was her fragrance alone, and no one would ever duplicated it, or
even come close.
“Darren?” Faith asked as she climbed off him and lay on the bed.
“Hmm?” he answered, wishing she hadn’t done that.
“What’s that noise?”
“What noise?”
“That squeaking noise?”
They stopped talking to hear the odd sound coming from what seemed to be the
next room. Sure enough, a repeating squeak could be heard from the room beside
Faith’s. She stood up, wrapping the blanket around her body, and walked over
to the wall. Putting her ear up against it, she could hear heavy breathing and
what sounded to be like moaning.
“Oh, shit! I think Spaz is fucking someone,” Faith giggled as she headed for
her robe on the floor. Wrapping it around her body, she started for the door.
“Hey, where are you going?” Darren asked as he put on his boxers.
“I’m gonna find out who she’s screwing once and for all,” she replied,
grabbing one of the key cards from off her table.
“Wait for me,” he called as he started to run. Catching up to Faith, he
added, “We’re gonna be in a ton of shit if we get caught.”
“I know, but I have to find out who that is in there with her.”
“What if it’s not even Spaz in there? What if Morgan is using her room?”
Darren tried to reason.
“Shut up and follow me,” Faith snapped as she silently tiptoed down the hall
and slid the key past the lock. It clicked and she opened the door. “Come
on!” she whispered.
“Thank God there’s a door to the bedroom,” he quietly replied, following
her into the room.
Faith quietly slinked past the living room and to the door of the bedroom. The
door was opened a crack, enough to see what was going on without being noticed.
She peeked inside to find Spaz, her bare back to the door, sitting on top of
someone. She moaned and groaned as her hips moved together with the man beneath
her.
“Holy shit!” Faith mouthed as she continued to watch with her eyes widened
by how good she was at predicting these things. Yet her view was still
obstructed. She couldn’t see the guy’s face. Moving slightly to her left,
she finally caught a glimpse of him and gasped.
Darren stared at her, wondering why she had grown so excited. He peered into the
room and saw what she had gasped at. His jaw dropped as he nearly screamed,
“What the fuck!” Faith’s hand clamped over his mouth just before he could
utter anything. She pulled his away from the door and dragged him out of the
room before either of them was caught.
“Either you’re a psychic or the luckiest guesser in the world,” Darren
commented as they headed back to her room.
“Told you it was Karl,” Faith smirked as she opened her door.
“But how did you know?” he asked.
“I’ve been watching them for the last few days, and I kind noticed that she
was very shy and fidgety around him. I’ve never seen Spaz act that way around
a guy. She’s always been the domineering one. But when I see her with Karl,
it’s like she’s turned into a puddle of mush. Maybe he’ll do her some
good, straighten her out,” she explained, heading to the bathroom. “Now if
you don’t mind, I have to get ready for tonight.”
“I don’t mind. I’ll just sit here and watch,” Darren joked.
“You sick perv!” Faith sarcastically yelled as she slammed her bathroom door
shut.

“Can you hear my voice? Do you hear my song? It's a serenade so your heart can
find me, oh. And suddenly you're flying down the stairs into my arms, baby,
oh,” Faith was singing as she rigged some of the stage equipment from high up
above the stage.
Darren heard the soft voice echo through the theater and looked around to see
where it was coming from. High above in the rafters of the roof, he saw Faith
nimbly moving around as she sang the rest of the song to herself. ‘An angle, a
pure angel,’ he thought as he kept staring at her. ‘Absolutely beautiful and
the most wonderful voice I’ve ever heard.’
“Earth to Darren, come in Darren,” Ben was saying as he waved his hand in
front of his friend’s face.
Breaking from his thoughts, Darren dumbly shifted his glance over to him and
said, “What? I’m here.”
“No, you’re not. You’re staring at Faith up there and not listening to
Leo. She sent me over here to talk to you because she thought you were
purposefully ignoring her. But now I can see that something else is on your
mind. Yes, I have noticed her voice too and it can be hypnotic, but do you see
me spacing out over it?” Ben continued to talk as he pushed Darren ahead of
him. “What is up with you, my friend? It seems as if she has you under a
powerful spell.”
“No, she doesn’t!” Darren loudly protested, hearing his voice echo against
the walls and back to his ears. “No, she doesn’t,” he said more softly.
“Oh, yes she does. I’ve seen you hook, line, and sinker, and this is
definitely it. Admit it, she’s got you head over heels.”
Darren shook his head, refusing to come clean with the fact that Faith had him
whipped.
“You’re in denial, buddy,” Ben observed. “Stop fighting it. You know you
love her. Just say it.”
Hearing the “L” word, Darren sharply turned to Ben and glared at him, his
fist ready to strike his face. Ben simply smiled when he saw the angry look on
his friend’s face. Darren was ready to lash out when he realized what Ben said
was the truth. He put down his fist, defeated, with the realization that Ben was
right. Darren had fallen in love with Faith, and everyone could see.
“Well?” Ben asked.
“Well, what?” Darren retorted as he started walking away.
“Care to make a statement in your defense?”
“No, otherwise I’ll incriminate myself.”
“You already did.”
Darren swiveled again, his temper flaring. He was getting sick of this. “You
really want my confession, don’t you?” he asked. Ben slowly nodded, noticing
that this was not going as he had planned. “Well, fine. I’ll give you my
confession. I am falling in love with her, but I don’t think she cares too
much for me. Every time I try to do something nice for her, she just shrugs it
off. I don’t know what to think. Does she like me or not? Is she messing with
my head? Is she gonna dump me after this tour is over? Is she playing me for all
I’m worth? Is this all just a game to her?”
“Hey, hey, calm down,” Ben interrupted before Darren’s voice could squeak
any higher. “Don’t start making assumptions that could potentially lead to
the downfall of your relationship with Faith. You’ll regret it like last
time.”
“Last time was different. That girl was playing me. I regret dating her,”
Darren retorted.
“But this time it’s different. Each girl is different. Give Faith a chance.
It’s not going to kill you,” Ben said. Seeing that Darren had calmed down
significantly, he added, “Get out of here and go talk to Leo. She’s going to
kill you for taking so long.”
Darren started down the isles of seats in the theater, soon heading off into a
gallop to talk to his manager. His mind was clouded over with what Ben had said
to him.
