Chapter 5

I walked into the house too see all the guys staring at the TV. I walked in with a questionable look on my face.

 "Who's playing?" I whispered to Lee.

 "Kentucky and Ohio State," he said.

 "Ohh," I said. I sat down and watched. Kentucky scored the winning goal, and all hell broke loose.

 "YYYYYEEEEAAAAAHH!!!!" Karl and Ben screamed, jumping up and down.

 "WHOO-HOO!!!!" Lee screamed. The guys high fived each other and started to dance around. I stood there and laughed at them. Daniel and Darren followed in behind us.

 "Oh, hey guys. Where'd cha go?" I asked.

 "To get Daniel’s prescription," Darren said. Daniel looked drowsy.

 "Hey Daniel, do you wanna go lie down in my bed and take a nap?" I asked.

 "Mes, hanks you," he said.

 "What?" I asked.

 "WWWHOO-HOOO!!! Oh, he said, 'Yes, thank you,' GOOOOO KENTUCKY!!!" Karl said after he heard me questioning what Daniel said. I led him upstairs and he collapsed on my bed and fell asleep. I walked back downstairs.

"Not into football, 'eh?" I asked Darren, who wasn't parading around and doing the kick line like Lee, Karl and Ben were.

 "Nah, I just like to watch them make fools of themselves. Especially when they start the kick line," he said, laughing, "Hey, um, ya wanna go do something today?"

 "Sure, just you and me?" I asked, praying he'd say yes.

 "Yeah," he said, shyly.

 "Ok," I agreed. We told my dad we were leaving and jetted out the door before Karl grabbed us to join their little kick line. We got into Karl's car. Darren started it and drove off.

 "So.... where too?" he asked, sweetly.

 "Hmm... Do you like Borders?" I asked.

 "Yeah! We have one in Brisbane and I'd love to sit, drink coffee and chill," he said.

 "Ok, let's go there," I said. We got there and Darren grabbed a Nike cap and put it on.

 "So people won't see me," he explained. We walked in and the smell of coffee swirled around us.

 "Want some coffee? My treat," Darren said. I nodded and we got our coffee and sat down at a table for two. Darren got a couple looks from little girls, but we ignored them. We sat there, looking around and drinking our coffee. We waited for one of us to say something.

 "So, you and your dad seem really close," Darren said, breaking the ice.

 "Yeah, he's like my best friend. We've been a team since my mom left," I said.

 "Have you ever met her?" he asked.

 "Nope," I said.

 "Man, I'm sorry. That's personal and I shouldn't have asked you that," he said.

 "No, no, I understand. It's ok," I said. My short hair fell in my eyes and I brushed it away. Darren looked me straight in the eye.

 "You have beautiful eyes," he said.

 "Thanks," I whispered back. We got closer to each other and were about to kiss when a little girl came up to us.

 "OHMYGOD!! Are you from Savage Garden?" she asked. Darren and I sighed and pulled apart.

 "No, I'm not," Darren said, seriously.

 "Oh, I'm sooooo sorry. You look like one of the guys," she said. She was embarrassed and walked away. I started to crack up.

 "What?" Darren said, smiling.

 "You should have seen her face!" I said, laughing.

 ~~~~~~~~
 We continued to talk, and we didn't bring up the subject that we almost kissed. He told me about being in Savage Garden and about all the guys. I loved to listen to him talk. He had the most beautiful voice I had ever heard. I didn't have too many boyfriends since I never had time with soccer, so this was all new to me. I liked Darren. A lot. Every time he looked me in the eyes, I got chills.
 "What’s wrong with you?! He's 26!!! That's 10 years older than you are!!" I screamed at myself. We finished our coffee and walked around the store. I was amazed because he was actually my height, which was also new cause I wasn't that tall. I swore he looked 18, not 26. We were looking at the CD’s when our hands brushed against each other. We looked at one another quickly and smiled. He started to blush and we continued to walk. We went outside where there were a lot of other stores. We decided to just walk around.
 Then I couldn't believe my eyes. I saw coming toward us, Jason Archer. The biggest jerk in the whole school. He was captain of the football, baseball, wrestling, and golf team. He had perfect hair and teeth and any girl would die to be his girlfriend. But, unfortunately, he only liked one girl in the whole school; me. I, personally, hated him because he was so stuck up and conceded. I didn't care about his looks and thought that he was a jerk. He asked me out all the time by saying cheesy lines like "Hey Dee, any girl would love to date me. Why don't you make them all jealous?" I'd reply by saying "Hey Jason, want a date?? GET A DOG!" He saw me and ran to me.
 "Shit," I mumbled.
 "DELIA? Is that you?!" he said, running toward me.
 "Noooo, its the ghost of Christmas Past you dipshit," I replied.
 "Where have you been?" he asked.
 "Right here. Waiting for you to come and take me away," I said, sarcastically. Darren tried to keep back his laughter.
 "Well, since I'm here and your here, let's be here together," he said, trying to grab my hand.
 "Get a life Archer," I said, backing away. I got an idea and grabbed Darren's hand, "Besides, I'm here with my boyfriend." Darren looked at me and played along.
 "Well then, I hope you know who your dissing! You'll be sorry DeKator!" he said, turning around and leaving.
 "Augh, I hate that loser," I said. I explained to Darren who he was.
 "Why did he ask you where you have been?" Darren asked.
 "Cause I'm not in any of his classes. I got my schedule changed," I lied. Darren smiled and we continued to walk. We were half way where we started and I noticed we were still holding hands. I didn't want to let go, so I didn't say anything. We decided to go back to the house and we walked to the car. We got there and we both looked at our hands. We quickly blushed and let go. We got in the car and drove home.
 ~~~~~~

 We walked in the door and saw Karl, Lee, Ben and my dad pigging out on pizza while watching a movie.

 "Hey! Save some pizza for us!" Darren said, grabbing a slice for him and me.

 "Is Daniel still sleeping?" I asked.

 "Yep," Lee replied.

 "What movie are you watching?" I asked.

 "Godzilla," Karl replied.

 "That is the worst movie I ever saw!!" I protested.

 "Is it that bad?" Darren asked, laughing.

 "It's beyond bad!" I said.

 "Well, it's almost over," Karl said. It eventually ended and my dad looked at his watch.

 "Wow, its already 10," my dad said. "This day went by fast."

 "We better get goin'. Thanks Joe, see ya tomorrow," Lee said. He got up, as long as Karl and Ben.

 "I'll go get Daniel," Karl said, as he headed upstairs. Ben and Lee said bye and went out to the car to wait. My dad followed them outside. Darren and I stood in the entry hall.

 "Well, I'll see ya tomorrow," he said.

 "I had fun today," I said.

 "Yeah, me too," he said, flashing his great smile.

 "Thanks," I said.

 "For what?"

 "Everything." He smiled as I also did and he walked out the door to the car.

 "But mommy, do I have to go to 'chool?" Daniel said as Karl helped him down the stairs.

 "He's still a little drowsy," Karl said.

 "I can tell," I said. I helped Karl take him to the car. He got in by Lee in the back and Daniel collapsed, his head on Lee's shoulder.

 "Man, do I have to ride home like this?!" Lee asked.

 "Yep, and he drools," Karl said as he hopped in the driver's seat. They all waved and pulled out. My dad and I went back in. We cleaned up the living room and plopped down on the couch.

 "So, what did you and Darren do today?" my dad asked.

 "We went to Border's and chilled," I said, smiling.

 "You like him don't cha Hun?" my dad said.

 "Yeah, I guess. But, dad, he's 10 year's older than I am," I said.

 "That's true, but love doesn't have an age limit honey. It might seem like a lot now, but in the future, it won't be such a big deal," he said.

 "Dad? Do you think he likes me?" I asked.

 "I've seen the way he looks at you. The way he smiles at you. And with my expert opinion, I say he does. Karl tells me he's never been in love, and he really likes you," my dad told me.

 "Well, if, by chance, he asks me out, will you have a problem with it?" I asked.

 "Well, you are old enough to make your own decisions and trust them. If you decide to date him, I'll be behind you 100 percent," my dad said.

 "Thanks dad," I said, as I kissed him on the head.
