Chapter 12

"Honey, trust me, I want you to come, but the doctor said no traveling," Darren said, giving his bags to Daniel who was checking them in.

"I know, I know," I said. We were at the airport. Daniel and Darren were flying to Chicago to meet the other guys. They were gonna be on the Oprah Show. Darren and Daniel were running late because so many girls crowded them as they tried to get out of the jeep. Since they moved to Boston, word got around and they started to get noticed. Daniel was doing the luggage check as fast as he could.

"Ok, I'll call when I get there and if anything happens, call me and I'll come as fast as I can," Darren said quickly. Daniel got their tickets and found out the gate was all the way at the end of the building.

 "C'mon D, we're runnin'," Daniel said.

"Ok, bye Dee. Love you," he said as he kissed me.

"Bye. Love ya too," I said.

"See ya in 5 days! Don't do anything I wouldn't do!" Daniel called out over his shoulder. Darren kissed me one more time as he grabbed his backpack and ran to catch up with Daniel. I saw them run as fast as they could to the gate. They ran all the way there and were the last on the plane. My dad and I walked out to the car. I was a little bummed because I've never been away from him that much. My dad treated me to dinner and we drove back home. I looked at the machine, and there were no messages. I sighed and plopped on the couch.

"What am I gonna do for 5 days?!" I asked myself. Mimi was too carried up in school to do anything and so were my soccer pals. I got up and went to my room. I found my soccer ball and brought it downstairs. My dad always let me play in the house, so I started to dribble it. It felt so weird. I haven't even touched a soccer ball in about 3 months. I knew I couldn't run with it, so I just dribbled it. I popped it up and hit it on my knee. I bounced it with my forehead as I counted. Last time I did it 105 times straight without stopping. "50, 51, 52, 53...," I said, when the phone rang. I caught it and answered it.

 "Hello?" I asked.

"Hey!" Darren said, on the other line.

"Hey!! How was your flight?" I asked.

"Well, we ran all the way there as fast as we could, but it was ok," Darren answered. I laughed.

 "Is the hotel nice?"

"Yeah, Daniel and I are sharing rooms. As usual," he said. I heard Daniel say hi in the background.

"When do you tape?" I asked, about Oprah.

"Tomorrow," he answered, "then we do all this promo stuff."

 "Cool," I said.

"So, whatcha up too?" he asked.

"Playing with my soccer ball," I said. I smiled at the thought of playing soccer.

"Cool," he said, I knew he was smiling too.

"I was bouncing it on my head. Trying to break my record," I told him.

 "And what’s your latest record?"

"105. I was up to 53 when you called," I said.

"Ah," he said. We chatted a little then Daniel wanted to say hi.

 "Hey Dee! Wazzup?" he asked.

"Sup Jonsey?! Nothing much," I said.

"So, whatcha gonna do for five days?!" he asked.

 "Hmm...throw a party," I said.

 "Really?!" he asked, seriously.

 "Yeah," I said.

 "For what?"

"For the fact you finally left!!" I said.

"You were kidding weren't cha?" he asked.

"YEP!!" I said, laughing. He laughed and handed the phone back to Daniel.

"You really had him fooled. Then again, every time he hears 'party', he goes insane," Darren said. I laughed. We talked for a long time then, Darren said, "Hun, I gotta go, we have to practice."

"Ok, call me tomorrow, ok?" I said.

 "You know it," he said.

 "Bye."

 "Love you."

"Love you with a cherry on top!" I said. I hung up and sighed.
