Chapter 23

6 months later............

 "Say cheese!"

 "CHEESE!!"

 "Tomato!" Karl shouted instead. They guys cracked up. All of their smiles were a mile wide. It was a great day. The day their second album went on sale. They accepted their CD and Darren held it while they gathered around him. Millions of flashes went off as their proud smiles lit up the whole room. All their work the past 6 months have paid off. They started a week after I got to New York and worked like crazy. I stayed with them and they hired a tutor for school. They had all been waiting for this day to come. To prove Savage Garden was back. And it was. They reported to us that 5 million CD stores were already sold out of their CD. Photographers continued to take pictures as I sat in the back of the room, smiling as bright as they were. Darren caught my eyes and motioned me to come up there. I pushed through the crowd and Daniel pulled me into their picture. Millions of flashes went off as the 6 of us smiled. We stepped down from the platform and Darren pulled me to a corner.

 "Ah, finally, I am with you, but I'm still seeing colors from the flashes," Darren said. I laughed.

 "Congratulations," I said. We hugged each other tightly.

 "Here," Darren said, handing me a copy of the CD.

 "Thanks," I said. It was the first time I saw it finished.

 "Read the 'Thank You's'," Darren told me. I opened the CD and flipped through the pages. I started to read out loud.

 "Before we go to our individual thanks, we all want to recognize a very special girl that came into all of our lives. Delia, you are the best thing that happened to all of us. You brought out the best in all of us, and even though Darren stole your heart, you stole all of our hearts as well. You hold a special place inside of all of our hearts. We watched you go through some of the toughest trials that you could face and you came out strong. Because of you, we all became a family. We love you very much and we dedicate this album to you. Love, Darren, Daniel, Karl, Lee, and Ben." I read. My eyes watered as I gasped. I looked up at Darren who was smiling brightly.

 "Thank you," I whispered. He kissed me lightly.

 "Keep reading," he said. I read Karl's, Lee's and Ben's. I got down to Daniel's.

 I want to thank God first and foremost for the great success He has given me, not only in music but in my life. I want to thank my mother, Chris. This year, someone came into my life that changed it completely. Dee, thank you. You changed me. You not only became my best friend as well as my 'daughter'. Because of you, I learned how to be strong and overcome anything that life throws at me. Thank you for accepting me as your father and your friend.

 Tears overfilled in my eyes as I kept reading on. I got down to Darren's.

 First I want to thank my Lord Savior. He has blessed me in so many ways possible this past year. He gave me a great family, who I love dearly, friends, producers, and most importantly, my Delia. Delia, you are my life. When you came into my life, I knew I couldn't let you go. Your beautiful personality, strength, and humor put the best in me. I can't put into words how much you mean to me. We were made for each other. I love you with all of my heart.

 I looked up at Darren. He smiled and tears streamed down my cheek. He kissed them away and hugged me. I smiled and we walked up to Lee.

 "Hey guys," he greeted.

 "Hey, where's Daniel?" I asked, because Karl and Ben were talking to some reporters and I couldn't see him.

 "I dunno, he was here a minute ago," Lee said. He looked at his watch. "Shoot, I gotta go call my dad. I promised I'd call today."

 "Why?" Darren asked.

 "Cause tomorrow is Father's Day," Lee answered. He headed upstairs, where the hotel was, to call his dad.

 "Shoot! I forgot all about that!" Darren said. He saw me looking down. "Hun? You ok?" he asked.

 "Yeah," I said. I realized it was the first Father's Day without my dad. Darren hugged hugged me and went to get something to drink. Then I realized that I did have a dad, and I had to get something special. I walked up to Darren.

 "Is there a store in this hotel?" I asked.

 "Yeah, why?" he said.

 "Never mind. I'll meet you back upstairs," I called out, as I pushed my way through the crowd of reporters. I walked to the elevator and pressed the button. A couple seconds later, the doors opened to reveal a crowded elevator full of screaming fans.

 "Uh, are you guys here for Savage Garden?" I asked.

 "Yeah!" one said, who looked like the leader.

 "Sorry, they already left. Ya know how they are; Karl was trying to balance the punch bowl on his nose, Ben was starting to strip dance, Darren was TRYING to do back flips around the room, and Daniel and Lee were farting and guessing what each other had for breakfast," I said, seriously.

 "OH MY GAWD!! EWWIE!!!" Almost all of them screamed.

 "Are you positive??" the leader asked.

 "Of course, but they got kicked out cause Daniel's fart smelled like the last 5 meals he had," I said. All of them shrieked.

 "EWW!!! OH MY GAWD!! THAT IS SOOOOOOOOOOO GROSS!" They all screamed. They ran to the nearest exit in disgust. I burst out in laughter as I got in the empty elevator. I rode to the main level and found the gift shop. I found the perfect card and bought it. I borrowed a pen from the front desk and wrote a long message in the front flap of the card. I finished it and sealed it up. I rode the elevator to the rooms and slipped Daniel's card under his door.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~
 "Whew, what a day," Daniel said, as he opened the door to his room that he was sharing with Darren, of course. Darren plopped on his bed.
 "Hey, what's this?" Daniel said, as he came upon an envelope. He shrugged to himself and opened it, since it had his name on it. It was a Father's Day card. He read the front and opened it up. He read the inside-
 Daniel, I can't express how grateful I am for you. You have done so much for me these past couple of months. You became my best friend and you rescued me when my dad died. I don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for you. You changed me also. A lot of the good in me, I have from you. You make me laugh, smile, and proud to be part of your family. I would want anyone else to take over my dad's place but you. Thank you so much for accepting me. I love you Daniel.
Your daughter~
Delia
 Daniel took off his sunglasses and a big smile grew across his face.
 "Hey D, do you know where Delia is?" Daniel asked.
 "Yeah, I saw her downstairs," Darren answered.
 "Be back!" Daniel said, as he flew through the door. He ran down the hall and got into an empty elevator. He got to the lobby and searched for Delia. He walked outside to the pool area. He saw her lying on a beach chair with sunglasses on. He walked over to the pool and dipped his hand in. He sprinkled water on Dee's face.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~

 "AUGH!" I said, waking up. I looked up and saw Daniel spraying water on me.

 "Hey Dee," he said. I took off my sunglasses and sat up.

 "Yo," I replied.

 "Thank you," he said, holding up the card. I smiled.

 "Your welcome," I said, "I meant every word."

 "Thank you so much. This really means a lot to me. No one ever said such good things about me," he said.

 "Happy Father's day," I said. We stood up and wrapped our arms around each other. We hugged each other tight. I kissed him on the cheek and we headed back upstairs.
